Embattled Nigerian skit maker, Sunday Joshua Martins, popularly known as De General, has been convicted of drug trafficking by a federal high court in Lagos.
Recall that the 22-year-old was allegedly caught with illic!t drugs including mar!juana and Tramad0l on his property in Lagos during an impromptu search by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The agency (NDLEA) would later share mugshots of De General posing with exhibits. According to the charge board, he was caught with 14 grams of Tramad0l 235mg, and 15 grams of Cannabis Sativa.
NAN has reported that De General was arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Monday, January 24, 2022, alongside Caleb William, a cinematographer on three counts of trafficking tramad0l and cannabis sativa.
The pair pled guilty to the charges read out against them as NDLEA prosecutor, Jeremiah Aernan argued that the pair be sentenced to prison as they had contravened the law and were punishable under section 11 (c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ACT CAP N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
However, defence counsel, Lilian Omotunde argued that the court did not have to take such extreme measures as there were other options besides sentencing the young men.
She argued that the pair still had their lives ahead of them and can still form a key and useful part of society.
The judge overseeing the case, Daniel Osiagor, in his ruling determined that the volume of substance the pair were said to have trafficked was minimal and not warranting of a sentence.
Instead, he convicted the pair and let them off warning that they “go and sin no more”.

Give him one more chance, he can still be useful to society warn him for the first time
