Recall that last week, footage of De General being accosted and manhandled by the officers surfaced online with many calling out the agency for their heavy-handedness.
Following the widespread outcry, the spokesperson of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Femi Babafemi sought to explain the circumstances that led to the comedian’s arrest in the early hours of Wednesday, January 12, 2022.
According to Babafemi, officers of the anti-drug agency got a credible tip-off and subsequently busted a drug joint located at Orchid Estate, Lekki where they arrested three suspects who had in their possession illic!t drugs including; 200 sachets of 225mg Tramad0l and 1.5kilograms of cannabis sativa.
The agency further stated that in the course of the operation, some persons fled from the scene including the suspected dealer. It is claimed that they were thereafter trailed to De General’s house.
Upon getting there and introducing themselves, the agency claimed that the young men in the house began making noise and creating a scene in a bid to derail their search mission.
This, the agency claimed is the true story of the footage making rounds on social media.
The search led to the recovery of drug exhibits including cannabis sativa; Tramad0l 225mg, and some paraphernalia for drug use. This was after the suspect had requested to record on video the search, which the officers out of sense of civility allowed.
The video trending on social media was the moment the suspect and his friends decided to disrupt the bid to conduct a search of the house. In his confessional statement in custody, the suspect admitted ownership of the drugs recovered from his house.
